Adventures In Napa Valley, California

5 of the Best Mineral Hot Springs in the Napa Valley

Couple Enjoying A Mineral Spa Together

Steeped in thousands of years of tradition, soaking in mineral hot springs is believed to promote a world of good-feeling benefits. From increasing blood flow and metabolism, to the folkloric advantages of treating diabetes and liver ailments, mineral hot springs are believed to be a fountain of youth for anyone who steps in its waters.

The little town of Calistoga in the Napa Valley was established around its natural mineral hot springs under the leadership of a man named Samuel Brannan. After settling in California in 1846 and several successful business ventures, Brannan purchased more than 2,000 acres in wine country after taking fondness to the area’s natural hot springs. In hopes of developing attractions reminiscent of the famous mineral baths in Saratoga Springs, Brannan spliced the names ‘Saratoga’ and ‘California’ together. The town of ‘Calistoga’ was born.

Today you can find many spas in Calistoga that honor the treasured pastime of washing your worries away in a relaxing hot spring on your wine country getaway. Here are five of the best in the Napa Valley.

Calistoga Spa Hot Springs

Relax in one of four geothermal mineral pools at Calistoga Spa Hot Springs. Try the 104°F whirlpool or the tranquil Soaking Pool. Refresh in the 80°F multi-lane Lap Pool in their outdoor oasis. Sign up for any spa treatment and get a complimentary pass to the pools and invite one guest to accompany you for an additional fee. Skip the spa services entirely and head straight to the pool by showing up early to secure a day-use pool pass.

Golden Haven Hot Springs Spa

Enjoy day spa treatments at the Golden Haven Hot Springs Spa and take a dip in their indoor steamy hot springs pool and jacuzzis. Venture outside to their sundeck to soak up the California sunshine. The outdoor recreation area is equipped with a fire pit, bocce ball, and picnic grounds.

Roman Spa Hot Springs Resort

For a more intimate experience, soak in a private or couple’s mineral bath at the Baths at Roman Spa. Bathe in the geothermal water bubbling up from the earth. Afterwards, rejuvenate the mind and body with a cool down in their relaxation room.

Indian Springs Calistoga

Visit one of the largest pools in California at Indian Springs Calistoga, the former site of Samuel Brannan’s 1862 hot springs resort. Swim in the 1913 Olympic-sized mineral pool, fed by on-site geysers. For a quieter experience, go for a swim in their smaller Adult pool. Once a regular spot for Hollywood celebrities, you can take a dip in the same pool as Lucille Ball once did. You must have a spa experience booked at this historic resort to access the pools.

Meadowlark Country House

As one of the only clothing-optional public pools in all of Northern California, Meadowlark Country House is the perfect retreat for those seeking an au natural soak. Their 24-hour heated mineral pool uses an ozonation system instead of chlorine for water purification, which gives the pool a more pleasant smell and clarity, free of byproducts. Day passes are available to enjoy their mineral pool and spa area surrounded by flagstone terraces and wine country views.

Retreat to the Wine Country Inn

Following your soak in one of Calistoga’s famous mineral hot springs, take the short drive to the Wine Country Inn for your personal spa treatment. Enjoy a complimentary wine country breakfast, weekend wine reception, and access to a personal spa experience in the privacy of your room with vineyard views. Pamper yourself with one of our in-room spa packages, with options from deep tissue massages to cleansing facials and steamed towel treatments.
